DMC Board of Regents extends deadline to Sept. 22 to apply for vacant District 1 seat

During the Sept. 8 regular monthly meeting, the Del Mar College Board of Regents announced an extended deadline for the process to apply for the District 1 seat left vacant after the passing of Regent Gabriel Rivas III. The Board will accept the required documents for their consideration to make an appointment for the District 1 seat. The extended deadline is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22.

“Due to a holiday weekend, back-to-school schedules and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Board of Regents elected to extend the application period for an additional two weeks to provide time for those community members wishing to apply for the District 1 seat,” said Board Chair Carol Scott.

Individuals interested in filling the vacant seat must submit the prescribed materials for consideration by the Board. Criteria include:

  • Candidate must be a resident of Texas (at least one year) and District 1 of the Del Mar College District (at least six months) and be a registered voter. The Del Mar College District includes all the area in the Calallen, Corpus Christi, Flour Bluff, Tuloso-Midway and West Oso Independent School Districts.   • Candidate should submit a letter of interest, a resume and up to five letters of reference addressing their qualifications. Requested documents may be submitted to the Office of General Counsel one of the following ways:

Applicant materials must be received by 5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22.

 The Board will review materials submitted by the deadline. Selected applicants should be prepared for interviews with Board members during a special called meeting scheduled for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

 The candidate selected for the District 1 seat will be sworn-in on Oct. 13 and take their seat for the Board’s October regular meeting. The appointed individual will fill the District 1 seat for the remainder of the term, which runs through 2024.

The Del Mar College Board of Regents includes nine regents in a modified single-member district configuration. Five Regents represent specific geographic districts, and four serve at-large.
