Coastal Compass Mobile Center Taking Services “On the Road”

During a ribbon-cutting ceremony held March 2 on Del Mar College’s West Campus by the Citizens for Educational Excellence (CEE), in partnership with the College, Charity League, Inc. and Coastal Compass partners, event participants got a first-hand look at the new Coastal Compass Mobile Center. The mobile center will provide free services throughout Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend to residents seeking access to tools needed to pursue their dreams … higher education, job placement or other life-changing skills.

The Charity League provided $250,000 in funds raised to purchase the mobile center.

“In addition to the Charity League, we are especially appreciative of Del Mar College’s partnership. They will provide the driver and truck to pull the trailer as well as a place to house the mobile center,” said Janet Cunningham, executive director of CEE. She noted the College also has assisted with the marketing of the new resource.

Nearly four years ago, the Coastal Compass Education and Career Resource Center opened at La Palmera Mall to provide residents with “direction for success.” The CEE is a 501(c)(3) local education organization that established that facility in partnership with the Corpus Christi Independent School District, Corpus Christi Literacy Council, Craft Training Center, Del Mar College, Education to Employment Partners, Education Service Center Region 2, Saint Leo University, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M University-Kingsville and Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend.

The comprehensive, one-stop resource center offers clients free information on all types of educational and career development programs.

The Coastal Compass Mobile Center will expand assistance to 12 surrounding counties, offering residents the same services as the mall location with the goal of preparing Coastal Bend residents with the education and skills necessary for the region’s jobs.
