Twenty-five years after the Sept. 11 attacks, fire and EMT cadets at Del Mar College climbed in honor of the first responders who rushed into the World Trade Center and never made it home. During a memorial stair climb on Sept. 11, 2026, each participant carried a lanyard with the name of a firefighter killed on 9/11.

On Sept. 11, 2026, Del Mar College Public Service Department programs and the Corpus Christi Fire Department held a memorial stair climb to honor the 441 lives lost among first responders at the World Trade Center North and South Towers after terrorist attacks 25 years earlier. Both CCFD firefighters and DMC cadets with the college’s Regional Fire and Police Academies and Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic students carried lanyards with the names of the fallen while climbing the equivalent of 110 stories, the height of each tower, or 28 ascents of the stairs of the DMC Public Safety Complex burn tower.

New metal fabricator degree planned by Del Mar College
Del Mar College will introduce a new associate degree in metal fabrication in fall 2027, pending approvals from the state and an accrediting association. The college Board of Regents approved the new Associate of Applied Science degree on Sept. 8.
