Del Mar College students compete against professional chefs at Texas Food Championship

Five Del Mar College culinary teams are preparing to compete against seasoned professional chefs at the Texas Food Championship this weekend in Corpus Christi. The students will face off in categories ranging from seafood to desserts, with just 90 minutes to create restaurant-quality dishes outdoors to win a Golden Ticket to the next level––the World Food Championship in Illinois in October.

The Texas Food Championship will be held Sept. 25-27 at Water's Edge Park in Corpus Christi. Del Mar College's culinary arts program is sending five teams of students to the event, competing in the burger, dessert, pasta and seafood categories.

Del Mar College receives bucket truck donation for lineworker training

The Del Mar College Foundation recognized on Sept. 21 a donation from Nueces Electric Cooperative (NEC) of a fully equipped Dodge Ram bucket truck with a 41-foot bucket. The truck will give DMC students preparing for careers as electrical lineworkers n another piece of equipment to help them gain hands-on experience.

Del Mar College launching initiative to promote responsible AI use

The College has received a five-year, $3 million federal grant to strengthen teaching and digital learning and help prepare students for a workforce increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies. The initiative kicks off Oct. 1, when the college plans to begin hiring staff for the new resource.
