Free concert at Del Mar to feature retired faculty member, Philip Hii

"Fiesta! Philip Hii" on April 18 will be the farewell performance of a former Del Mar College educator who joined the music faculty in September of 1988 to teach future performers and educators of music. The celebratory concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Heritage Campus Richardson Performance Hall.

Longtime Del Mar College professor remembered for more than his passion for teaching

Hundreds of people from all over the country are expected to attend funeral services for David Irving, Professor Emeritus of Music, who retired from Del Mar College in 2017. The dedicated educator who spent almost half a century teaching at the College not only had an ear for music -- he played various instruments ranging from the bass to the French horn -- but he also served as a mentor to generations of students during his 45 years as a music educator.

Beloved Del Mar College Music Professor David Irving passes away

Musicians across the Coastal Bend are mourning the loss of long time Del Mar College Music Professor David Irving, who passed away on Wednesday, April 3. Irving taught in theDMC Music Department for 45 years and was an expert in a wide range of subjects from jazz improvisation to the history of rock and roll. He had also previously taught at Ingleside and Mart as band director before becoming a faculty member with the College.

The future is bright for Rockport-Fulton High School welding students. Thanks to the school's welding shop, students get hands on experience and by next school year, the program will be revamped, thanks to a grant from the governor’s office. What to know about dual credit programs in Corpus Christi ISD

Corpus Christi ISD partners with Del Mar College to offer dual credit, which is when students are earning credit for both high school and Del Mar College at the same time. This summer, DMC announced a dual credit financial aid program for all students in the Coastal Ben with funding from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and dual credit programs being free for students who qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch. Del Mar College held a special luncheon at its Oso Creek Campus Thursday to kick off the third-annual Coastal Bend Restaurant Week scheduled Sept. 22 through Oct. 1. Students of the college's culinary arts program prepared a Japanese-inspired meal, including pork katsu, potato mochi and soba noodles. The 10-day event founder Mirza Mirely said that Coastal Bend Restaurant Week is a great opportunity to celebrate the culinary diversity and excellence in the region. As well, it's a chance for diners to show their love for local restaurants that make Corpus Christi special.

Snapka's Drive Inn matriarch gets $25,000 scholarship named after her

Truck driving Army veteran takes a victory lap

Ashley Leiva, the Army veteran who won a Kenworth big rig on Dec. 16, returned to Del Mar College's Windward Campus on Monday, where she completed training for her CDL through the College's Transportation Training Services Program. Belen Castellanos Fredrick earned an associate's degree in Spanish from Del Mar College on Dec. 16. The junior at Flour Bluff High School received her associate's degree in Spanish. Texas commission proposes community college funding overhaul

The Texas Commission on Community College Finances report suggests that community college be made more affordable for low income students by increasing financial aid through the Texas Education Opportunity Grant. Officials with Del Mar are backing the move as state funding currently offsets only about 20-percent of what they need to operate and educate. Del Mar College is making it easier to pay for school in the Coastal Bend. The College's "800 On Us" grant uses funds from the U.S. Department of Education's Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II, or HEERF II, and allows the two-year college to provide $800 to students for a three hour course, textbooks and other needs for the second 8-week session this fall. Veterans reunited almost 30 years later
