"Fiesta! Philip Hii" on April 18 will be the farewell performance of a former Del Mar College educator who joined the music faculty in September of 1988 to teach future performers and educators of music. The celebratory concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Heritage Campus Richardson Performance Hall.

Hundreds of people from all over the country are expected to attend funeral services for David Irving, Professor Emeritus of Music, who retired from Del Mar College in 2017. The dedicated educator who spent almost half a century teaching at the College not only had an ear for music -- he played various instruments ranging from the bass to the French horn -- but he also served as a mentor to generations of students during his 45 years as a music educator.

Irving taught in theDMC Music Department for 45 years and was an expert in a wide range of subjects from jazz improvisation to the history of rock and roll. The program is the first of its kind and will focus on Organizational Management and Leadership. The idea of bringing the program to the community college comes from extensive research of industry professionals in management. It's also based on several surveys, including students who detailed what they're looking for regarding career advancement and progress.
