College Relations Office wins gold, silver and bronze NCMPR Paragon Awards

Article by: Melinda Eddleman

Even though the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR) conference scheduled in Orlando last month was cancelled, the show still had to go on as the “new norm” now defines how everyone conducts business. NCMPR, an organization for professionals working for community colleges across the United States and Canada, put technology to good use March 31 and held their Paragon Awards show “virtually” to announce winners for 2019.

Beginning at 11 a.m. Central Time, NCMPR members across the country sat at computers waiting to see which colleges won the top prizes by watching Facebook Live. Del Mar College (DMC) was among those winners, earning three Paragon Awards in separate categories that include gold, silver and bronze awards.

Those national-level awards include:

Gold Paragon in the Quick-turn Video category for “In the Memory of Edward Boenau,”
• Silver Paragon in the Communication Success Story or Crisis Communication category for “Want to learn carpentry and help rebuild Texas?” (click title to read)  and
Bronze Paragon in the Social Media category for “Twitter.”

DMC College Relations Office (CRO) staff produce work that encompasses advertising, media relations, public relations, publications, social media and videography to support branding, recruitment and promotion of the College’s programs and student and employee accomplishments. CRO team members are known for their award-winning work submitted not only to NCMPR but also to other higher education councils and associations.

NCMPR is the largest affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). The council is the only organization of its kind that exclusively represents marketing and public relations professionals at community and technical colleges; and as one of the fastest-growing affiliates of AACC, NCMPR has more than 1,700 members from nearly 650 U.S. and Canadian colleges.
