Del Mar College’s Viking Fall Carnival Scaring Up Howling Good Time at “The Dome” on Windward Campus Oct. 27

Family-friendly fun fest includes old-fashioned games, food and costume contests; new one-mile “Zombie & Monster Walk” added to festivities with tee shirts for first 50 finishers

It’s time for the annual spooky fun fest at Del Mar College (DMC)––the Viking Fall Carnival! Bones will clatter and teeth will chatter as the College’s Student Leadership & Campus Life Office and DMC Registered Student Organizations (student clubs) hold the popular campus event this Friday, Oct. 27.

Featuring goblins and games, prizes for best child and adult costumes, food and fun for everyone, this family-friendly frightfully good time runs from 5 to 10 p.m. in “The Dome,” or Emergency Training Building, on the College’s Windward Campus at 4101 Old Brownsville Rd. (78405). Get online directions and campus map.

For more information about the Viking Fall Carnival, contact the DMC Student Leadership & Campus Life Office at 361-698-1279 or bcanales2@delmar.edu

As a fundraising event for student clubs, participants can expect some howling high jinks while helping these groups raise money for their organizations and the worthy campus and community causes they support. Participation cost per booth is nominal with 50 cent tickets available for purchase to redeem at each booth. Participants need to bring cash for ticket purchases since debit or credit cards are not accepted and no ATM is located at The Dome.

Currently, 19 clubs have lined up to offer multiple food booths and activities ranging from concession stand snacks like Frito pies, nachos, popcorn, candy apples, cotton candy and drinks to good old-fashioned games and activities such as corn hole and bean bag tossing, pumpkin bowling, pool noodle javelin throwing and face painting, among many other carnival-type games.

New this year is a one-mile “Zombie & Monster Walk” hosted by the Kinesiology & Education Department’s Intramural Sports Program with the walk/run beginning at 5:30 p.m. at The Dome.

The activity is offered to promote fitness, wellness and safe fall season fun, and participants are encouraged to wear costumes. DMC campus community members and the general public are invited to participate.

Online pre-registration is currently available as well as in-person pre-registration beginning at 4:30 p.m. at The Dome on Oct 27. No fee is required, and the first 50 participants to finish the walk/run will receive a tee shirt. For more information about the “Zombie & Monster Walk,” call 361-698-1373 or vikingsports@delmar.edu.

So, for anyone looking for some pre-Halloween family fun, join Del Mar College for an old-fashioned “ghoul” time!
