DMC Continuing Education Offering Employers Fast-tracked Training in Partnership with Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend

Employers Can Access Workforce Development Training Through TWC Skills Development Fund COVID-19 Special Initiative Grant Handled By Workforce Solutions

Article by DMC College Relations Office

Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend received a $100,000 Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) Skills Development Fund COVID-19 Special Initiative grant for short-term (three months or less) training opportunities for Coastal Bend employers. As one of three contracted partners selected to provide training through this grant, Del Mar College (DMC) Continuing Education (CE) is providing one-day courses to 12-week programs in targeted high-demand occupations in our area.

As a training provider, Del Mar College’s partnership with Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend is another means to ensure the local workforce remains viable during these challenging times. Now more than ever, employers need resources, such as this grant, for training opportunities that expand current or new employees’ skills and credentials that meet the shifting environment our workforce now faces.
Dr. Leonard Rivera, DMC Dean of Continuing Education and Off-Campus Programs

Employers must apply for grant assistance that covers the cost of training through Workforce Solutions. An online application, requirements and other information are available on their Skills Development Fund COVID-19 Special Initiative web page at www.workforcesolutionscb.org/skills-development/. Employers may also email sdf@workforcesolutionscb.org or call 361-443-4532 about how to access available training.

For a listing of courses and programs that DMC Continuing Education is offering as part of the Skills Development Fund COVID-19 Special Initiative, visit www.delmar.edu/continuing-education/fall-2020-schedule-workforce.html. Employers can also call 361-698-2122 or email ce@delmar.edu regarding questions about the College’s offerings.

(Note: These CE courses and programs are also available to individuals seeking workforce training and are offered throughout the fall, spring and summer semesters. Registration as an individual is available through the College’s non-academic registration process, and inquiries about registration and cost can be directed to Continuing Education at 361-698-2122 or ce@delmar.edu.)

DMC Continuing Education offers quality in-demand training focused on employers’ workforce needs in several industry sectors. A one-day prerequisite course covering COVID-19 pandemic safety protocols in the workplace is also required as part of training offered through the grant.

Upon completion, individuals will earn the credentials needed by the current workforce in fields covered by Continuing Education’s learning opportunities.

Of the College’s partnership with Workforce Solutions, Dr. Rivera said, “Together, we’re shaping South Texas’ economic stability and giving employers and their workers the means to remain competitive now and in the future.”
