Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi announced Friday a $500 scholarship to spring 2019 Del Mar College graduates who transfer to the Island University.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi President and CEO Dr. Kelly M. Quintanilla made the announcement during the spring 2019 Del Mar College commencement ceremony, where she had the honor of being the commencement speaker.

"I have a gift for you," Quintanilla told the graduating class. "We have set up a $500 scholarship for all spring 2019 Del Mar College graduates who transfer to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi."

Quintanilla encouraged the graduates to apply for the scholarship and depending on their GPA recommended other transfer scholarships up to $4,000.

"One day you could be the next president of Del Mar College or the next president of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi," she said

Mark Escamilla, Ph.D., President and CEO of Del Mar College said the scholarship reflects the strong partnership between the two institutions.

This generous scholarship for our graduates tonight is another example of how our strong relationship continues to further those opportunities. A $500 scholarship is an incredible gift for our graduates who have earned an associate degree and who plan to continue their education at the Island University. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate and recognize their hard work to reach this point in their lives.
