It’s Not Too Late …Sign Up for Foundation’s “Over The Edge” Rappelling Fundraiser Set for Oct. 26

Article by: Melinda Eddleman

For the past two years, thrill seekers have taken the Del Mar College (DMC) Foundation’s challenge to go “over the edge” to raise funds for student scholarships by rappelling down 20 stories from the rooftop of a Corpus Christi’s Bayfront hotel. Organizers are extending the same opportunity for the 2019 Over The Edge scholarship fundraiser scheduled Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Holiday Inn Corpus Christi Downtown Marina.

If you haven’t registered, it’s not too late!

Scholarships are the top priority of the Del Mar College Foundation because scholarships mean access to quality education for our local community, and the College supports our community’s need for a skilled workforce.
Matthew Busby, Director of Development

Over The Edge has raised more than $188,000 since the Foundation first held the event in 2017. The overall goal is to raise $115,000 between registered participants and sponsorships this year.

You can help the Foundation meet that goal by registering or donating to an individual who has already signed up for the challenge.Individuals who raise at least $1,000 by Oct. 11, or two weeks prior to the event, will rappel down from the hotel’s rooftop. Registrants set up their own donation pages where family, friends and colleagues can donate funds toward their rappelling experience.

No climbing or rappelling experience is necessary for this event … just enough courage to go “over the edge.” And, various opportunities are available to participate during the event, including individual, team and toss your boss or professor rappelling sponsorships, keeping your feet squarely on the ground in the viewing zone.
