Ninth Annual “The B.I.G. Event” Goes Virtual in 2020; Scheduled for Aug. 5

Online networking event connecting Coastal Bend businesses with contractors to expand international trade and economic growth

Article by: Melinda Eddleman

Big businesses and government entities consistently seek to improve their bottom line. And, Coastal Bend business owners anticipate connecting with these area contractors for the opportunity to network and promote their products and services during The B.I.G. (Booming industry, International trade, Government contracting) Event each year.

On Wednesday, Aug. 5, business owners can explore the possibilities and opportunities to support global representation of new industries while meeting key contracting personnel virtually during the 9th Annual The B.I.G. Event. Instead of meeting in-person, participants will attend completely online.

Hosted by the Del Mar College (DMC) Small Business Development Center (SBDC) each year, the 2020 virtual event includes a keynote presentation, industry topic update, online presentations and a Contractor Virtual Matchmaking networking opportunity between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Normally, we would offer The B.I.G. Event as a formal, face-to-face networking opportunity to connect Coastal Bend businesses with area contractors, but everyone has made adjustments during the pandemic, including us. Participants can expect the same quality experience online, and we thank our sponsors in making this year’s event possible. Even during our current challenge with COVID-19, there are still many opportunities for businesses to expand and find new customers.

While at NO COST, participants will still need to register. In lieu of lunch, participants will all receive an electronic gift certificate ($10) provided by SCORE Corpus Christi to use at a local restaurant at a later time. To register and for more event details, go to

The B.I.G. Events kicks off at 11 a.m. with a keynote address, “10 Essential Team Needs During Crisis and Uncertainty,” featuring Beverly Beuermann-King, stress and resiliency strategist and one of less than 70 certified speaking professionals in Canada. For more than 20 years, she has presented her S-O-S Principle™ to individuals and organizations wanting to control their reactions to stress, build resiliency against life’s challenges and live healthy, successful lives.

Beuermann-King formed her company, R ‘n B Consulting, in 1995 and has helped teams from a wide range of industries––healthcare, education, government, finance and non-profit––to shift their operations from stressed-out to resilient and enabling them to be more engaged, productive and healthy. Beuermann-King combines her background in psychology, sociology, management, and adult education to create her Work Smart Live Smart presentations. She is a sought-after media spokesperson and has made over 500 television and radio appearances. To learn more about Beuermann-King, visit her site at https://worksmartlivesmart.com/.

ConocoPhillips representatives Bob Valentine, supply chain specialist, and Tony Perez, supply chain coordinator, will provide a community update covering this year’s Industry Topic. Even though activity may have slowed down in the oilfield, there are still abundant opportunities in the Coastal Bend.

Participants can also attend virtual presentations on diverse topics covering leadership skills, networking and growth opportunities for selling products or services to vendors.

To round-out The B.I.G. Event, organizers have arranged for a Contractor Virtual Matchmaking opportunity to connect local businesses with contractors during one-on-one virtual sessions. Availability is limited and only one session will be scheduled per business. Participants should have their capability statement and questions ready. (event registration required before matchups are scheduled). In addition to the event registration link, Matchmaking registration links are as follows:

The B.I.G. Event may be virtual this year, but it’s one networking opportunity Coastal Bend businesses don’t want to miss. Owners are encouraged to carve a few hours out of their busy schedules to work “on” their businesses instead of “in” their businesses to find new customers.
