Article by: Rosa Linda Reynoso

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) recently voted to award “continuing accreditation” to Del Mar College’s Nursing Program through 2026 for the program’s Associate in Applied Science degrees.

As part of the notification to the College’s Department of Nurse Education, ACEN congratulated the Nursing Program faculty for achieving the award of accreditation and “for your commitment to quality nursing education.

This is an outstanding achievement for our nursing program and a confirmation of the high-quality training we provide for our students at Del Mar College. The site visitors noted the strong student services within the program and commented on our outstanding faculty-to-student ratio with 100 percent compliance across all the standards.

Del Mar College maintains its curricular program in nursing current with ACEN standards. The next scheduled evaluation visit is spring 2026.

The Department of Nurse Education provides students with opportunities for personal growth and attainment of academic goals leading to either a Vocational Nurse Education Certificate, an Associate of Applied Science in Registered Nurse Education degree, and Associate in Applied Science in Registered Nurse Education LVN-RN Transition degree or an Associate of Arts degree to facilitate their education for completion of a BSN degree at an upper level nurse education program.

ACEN is recognized as the accrediting body for all types of nursing education by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. ACEN’s purpose is to provide specialized accreditation for programs of nursing education, both postsecondary and higher degree, which offer either a certificate, a diploma or a recognized professional degree.
