“Spanish for Medical Fields” One-hour Workshop Scheduled for Oct. 21

Free workshop designed to build medical professionals’ speaking and listening skills for use in field

Hablas Español? No? If you work in a medical setting and come into contact with Spanish-speaking patients, you now have the opportunity to brush up on medical terms in Spanish for FREE!

Refresh your language skills during the Del Mar College’s (DMC) “Spanish for Medical Fields” workshop scheduled for Friday, Oct. 21. This training opportunity is designed to build attendees’ speaking and listening skills for practical, everyday use of Spanish for basic communication on the job. 

Sponsored by the DMC Communications, Languages and Reading Department, the workshop begins at 11 a.m. in Room 227 in the Coles Classroom Building on the Heritage Campus located at 101 Baldwin Blvd. (78404), Get directions and the online campus map

Presented by Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Dr. Rossy Lima de Padilla and DMC faculty, the workshop focuses on information beneficial for hospital nurses, emergency responders, physicians and physical therapists. Attendees will learn vocabulary phrases pertaining to the human body and scenarios related to hospitals, clinics and doctor and dental office visits. 

Guest speaker Lima de Padilla is the translation certification coordinator within the university’s Spanish Department. She is also an award-winning Mexican American poet, activist and educator. As a translator, Lima de Padilla has translated multiple works for Penguin Random House and Arte Público Press. Additionally, PBS featured her life story nationally on the iNation Media documentary series, Waking Dream. Her awards are numerous, both nationally and internationally.

DMC faculty workshop presenters are native language speakers and work in the College’s Foreign Languages Lab.
