QUICK TAKES -JUNE 2019

The Texas Association of Broadcasters (TAB) selected Mac Aipperspach, Professor of Radio and Television in the Department of Communications, Languages and Reading, as their 2019 Educator of the Year Award recipient. He will receive the award during TAB’s annual conference and awards gala scheduled in August in Austin to recognize a total of five industry leaders. Aipperspach began teaching at Del Mar College 38 years ago after earning his master’s degree in Radio/Television/Film from the University of North Texas. Before becoming an educator in the field, he had worked in broadcasting in a variety of forms since 1972 and first started on-air with the campus radio station at John Brown University in Arkansas. DMC’s program had only started a year before Aipperspach arrived, but fellow industry colleague and TAB member Don Dunlap, President and General Manager of South Texas Public Broadcasting, noted, “The broadcast industry has been through huge operational, content delivery and technology changes during Mac’s time at Del Mar College, and he has done an outstanding job of keeping up with the changing media industry and preparing his students with a relevant skills set and professional work ethic while impacting the careers of thousands of broadcast professionals who are working across the country. In South Texas, his students and graduates have fueled the broadcasting workforce for years. Mac is not only a caring instructor but also a mentor and positive role model for his students.” Learn more about the College’s Radio and Television Program by visiting www.delmar.edu/degrees/radio-and-television/index.html.
